Combining Animations 1

tut and images are © Neophyte

This lesson is just to let you practice combining animations of different speeds. The animation burro_NEOPHYTE can be gotten at http://www.4shared.com/fi...ationburro_NEOPHYTE.html The animation butterflies_NEOPHYTE can be downloaded from http://www.4shared.com/fi...43/35....ies_NEOPHY.html Since they are mngs, you need to open them in Animation Shop.

First of all, there are 40 butterflies frames. Actually, there are two separate animations there, so highlight the first 20 and cut them Paste as a new animation.

We want the butterflies to be flying while the burro is braying in this animation. Now let's begin.....

The butterflies need to be fluttering at a length/speed of 10. The burro, however, only uses a length/speed of 10 when the neck is stretching outward or inward. It needs a longer time when it is fully stretched and fully retracted. Ordinarily, I would set the timing for around 100 for those frames. That certainly won't work with the butterflies length/speed of 10.

There are a couple more things to take into consideration.

1. The butterfly animation has 20 frames.
2. The burro animation only has 4 frames.

We will need to end up with a multiple of 20 so that the butterfly can complete its animation. We'll do 40 or 60 at a later time. 20 will work for us.

If we take Frame 1 of the burro animation at a length/speed of 10, then and copy it and paste before current, it will be showing for a length/speed of 20 (2 frames x 10 length/speed). If we continue to Paste Before Current until there are 10 of the same frames, the length/speed will be 100 (10 frames x 10 length/speed)

What we have is 10 copies of frame 1 (the burro is standing quietly)....1 frame of the burro starting to stretch.....1 frame of the neck stretched out.....and 1 frame of the neck retracting. That's a total of 13 frames.

This leaves us the necessity of adding 7 more frames to bring the total to 20 frames to match the butterfly.

So, we will take the frame where the burro's neck is fully stretched into a bray (frame 12), copy it and Paste After Current 7 times.

Since there are now 8 frames of the braying position in a row, the length/speed will be 80 (8 frames x 10 length/speed)

This brings us to 20 frames.

On the butterfly animation that you cut and Pasted as a New Animation, be sure you select all and move the slider all the way to frame 1.

Be sure the burro animation is also selected all and at frame 1.

Put the cursor on the first butterfly and drag it onto the burro. Release the cursor when you have it where you want it.

Click the View Animation icon to be sure all the frames have a butterfly and that all of them are completely in the animation. If not, use the undo button and begin the dragging again.

Repeat with the other butterfly.
